The Employment Case Law Conference returns: 18th edition, 25 November 2026, Xara Lodge, Malta

On Wednesday 25 November 2026, the Employment Case Law Conference reaches its 18th edition at Xara Lodge, Rabat.

Eighteen years is a long time for any event to hold its place. This one has done more than that. It has grown exponentially, edition after edition, and is now a fixed date on the calendar of HR professionals, employers and employment lawyers across Malta.

Why it keeps growing

The reason is simple. Case law never stands still.

Every year, the Industrial Tribunal, the Courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union deliver decisions that change how employers manage people. A dismissal that would have passed scrutiny five years ago may not pass it today. A policy that seemed neutral may now expose an employer to a discrimination claim. Each judgment carries a lesson, and each year brings new ones.

The conference exists to draw those lessons out. It takes a year's worth of decisions and turns them into guidance that HR teams and managers can apply the following morning.

What we will discuss

The cases change every year, but certain themes keep returning because they matter most to employers.

This year, the speakers will look at how the Industrial Tribunal has dealt with unfair dismissal, and where it has drawn the line on fairness, process and proportionality. They will examine recent discrimination decisions and what equal treatment now requires of employers in practice. They will also turn to the Court of Justice of the European Union, whose rulings bind Maltese employers and shape how local law is applied.

Heavy subject, lively morning

Case law has a reputation for being dry. This conference proves otherwise.

Dr Roselyn Borg, founder of Ten Yards Legal, Dr Matthew Brincat and Dr Andrew Borg Cardona bring decades of courtroom and advisory experience between them. More to the point, they make the morning interactive. They test the audience on the cases, invite challenge and debate, and leave real time for questions. Delegates regularly tell us the morning goes faster than they expected.

More than the cases

The conference is also one of the best opportunities of the year to meet peers. HR professionals, in-house lawyers, managers and advocates share the same room, the same coffee break and often the same problems. Many conversations that start at Xara Lodge continue long after the conference closes.
